The New York-born star was the first Black man to win a supporting actor Oscar Louis Gossett Jr., the first Black man to win a Supporting Actor Oscar, has passed away aged 87.  The actor's death was confirmed in a statement released by his family on Friday morning. No cause of death was given. "It is with our heartfelt regret to confirm our beloved father passed away this morning," the statement read.
